How to Enroll

Enrollment Update: We're still accepting K-12 enrollments for the spring (second) semester, however, high school enrollment closes on January 22, 2009. 

Follow the steps below to begin enrolling your K-12 student in a California Virtual Academy.

Enrollment Steps

Apply Step 1. Complete Online Application

Please note: enrollment is limited to residents of certain counties.
Please fill in your county of residence in the online application to ensure the correct CAVA school is selected.


Please note that kindergarten students must be five years old by December 2, 2008, in order to enroll.

Forms Step 2. Provide Required Forms
After you have completed the online application, fax or mail the following required documents:
  • Copy of birth certificate
  • Copy of proof of residence
  • Copy of immunization record
  • Additional enrollment documents
  • Official school transcript (grades 9-12 only)

In order to expedite your student’s enrollment, please submit these additional required documents within 7-10 days of completing the online application.


Test
Step 3. Administer placement tests (Placement tests not required for students enrolling after October 1st)
If you are enrolling a student in grades 1-8, administer the K¹² Math and Language Arts placement tests, which will help us to determine the appropriate courses for your student. Your student may start the placement tests (Step 3) while you are gathering the required forms (Step 2).

To administer the placement tests, log in to your Enrollment Dashboard and click “Begin” in the Tests column next to your student's name. You will receive detailed instructions there.

If your student is enrolling in kindergarten or grades 9-12, no placement tests are requird. Instead, you will need to submit an official school transcript to help us determine the appropriate courses for your student (see above).

Conference Step 4. Placement Conference
After you've completed steps 1 and 3, a placement specialist will contact you to discuss your student's course level.

Have You Completed All 4 Steps?

After all four steps have been successfully completed, each student will be marked “approved” on your Enrollment Dashboard. 


Once your enrollment is complete you will receive receive your computer and complete course materials before the first day of school. If your enrollment is approved 15 or fewer days before the beginning of school, your materials will arrive within 7-10 days of your enrollment approved date. 


We recommend that you plan to attend a Parent Orientation or other event in your area at any time before school starts.
